The route went straight up from the port to 100m elevation then traversed to a tiring 160m before decending
to the seafront from where it became a scenic coastal section returning to the port.

Our participants: Mad Dog
The objective was to climb
3.5 km (with a 466 metres altitude rise) -
up to the Profitis Ilias monastery (starting at 13.00 from the port).
Then at 14.00 each runner was started individually with about a minute between each runner
and had to race back downhill to the port in the shortest time.
Total distance up and back: 7 km

FRIDAY 7th APRIL - Athens to Hydra
The car route to Metochi (METOXI).
A more attractive but slightly longer (194 km) route is the coastal route
passing Methana and Poros.
Stopping at The Stork in Epidavros for lunch and admiring the fabulous view

COSTING FOR DRIVING / BOAT FROM NORTHERN ATHENS TO METOCHI / HYDRA VIA THE COAST ROAD AND BACK
194 km (3hrs) takes 21.5 litres @ 9 litres / 100 km & costs 32.3 euros (one way) or 64.6 euros (return) - say 64 euros
Assume road tolls are 10 euros each way = 20 euros
Parking at Metochi secure parking 3 days x 5 euros/day = 15 euros
Boat fare to Hydra - 6.50 euros per person each way x 4 = 26 euros
TOTAL (Northern Athens to Hydra & return): 64 + 20 + 15 + 26 = 125 euros
